KNOWN for his unique blend of creativity and business acumen, Stephen’s experience spans film, television, print, and digital media. His journey began at age 10, creating animated cartoons and stop-motion films under the mentorship of the Oscar-winning director of the NFB short Every Child. While studying Radio & Television Arts at Ryerson University, Stephen further honed his craft by illustrating a political cartoon strip for The Bay News and writing for the university’s annual comedy revue, RIOT! After earning his Bachelor of Applied Arts degree, he co-founded a sketch comedy troupe, performing at prominent venues across Toronto.

Stephen’s professional experience includes creating commercial spots for radio and TV, as well as writing over 200 news stories and features as a staff reporter for Metroland Media. His leadership on a Durham Region Economic Development project earned four Marketing Canada Awards.
Stephen spent six impactful years at the acclaimed animation studio Nelvana, contributing to over 20 series, including Braceface with Alicia Silverstone and the Emmy Award-winning Magic School Bus. His freelance work spans children’s games based on The Save-Ums TV series, contributions to Frank magazine and writing for CTV News online. For the CBC, Stephen researched and wrote the documentary series The Planet of the Doctor, which garnered over two million viewers.

In business development, Stephen excelled at a marketing firm, generating over $4 million in new revenue and securing high-profile clients like KCTS Seattle – Public Television. His contributions helped the firm earn a spot on Profit Magazine’s Profit Hot 50 ranking.
Stephen is committed to harnessing his creative and business expertise to drive impactful media projects that resonate with audiences and generate meaningful results.
While working in the industry, Stephen founded Lategan Media Group, whose first production, the children’s radio play A Big Day For Little Sarah, won a Worldmedal at the New York Festivals.
LMG initially made its mark by publishing Grip, a satirical magazine distributed across Canada. It later evolved into Grip Radio, a live-recorded audio series broadcast in Canada, the US, UK, France and the Netherlands.
LMG produced Coxwell & Gerrard through innovative funding methods. The short film earned a Special Jury Remi Award at Worldfest Houston and was featured on Shorts TV, Movieola, Accessible Channel and Air Canada in-flight entertainment.
LMG has since expanded its portfolio, releasing three web series featured on Funny or Die and co-hosting popular industry events during the Toronto International Film Festival.
Currently, LMG is in production for the feature film The Collection Agent, furthering its commitment to impactful, boundary-pushing storytelling.
